    The bridge over the Tahakopa river is currently under repair and isn’t scheduled to re-open until 30/4/16. There is a very dusty detour in place, which could be as long as 15-20 kms of tortuous gravel : much worse than the old Catlins dirt road, which was actually quite reasonable back in 2004. So, best to limit your traverse of the Catlins to a single crossing.
