    Following a major slip last winter, Highcliff Road is still not repaired as of 18/3/16. Access to Sandymount Road currently only possible from Portobello end.

    Better views from Harbour Cone (moderate 40-60 min. circuit from Highcliff Road parking area) than Sandymount trig. On the way to Chasm, if you go left before the stile and cross the thistles to far corner of field, there is a great view of Hoopers Inlet and Allans Beach. Our best haul of Hookers on Otago Pen. was on Victory Beach (17 !), including 2 very large males coming out of the sea. They were clustered at the Papanui Inlet end of the beach, which few tourists reach. Probably best to keep it that way;
